Welcome to
Matilda's Pet Sanctuary
A Safe Haven for Paws in Need.
Our Story
In 2007 we rescued our very first kitten, Matilda. Little did we know that was just a tip of the iceberg, One cat rescue turned into 2, then 3 and so on. We started a trap and release program where we rescued many cats and kittens. We got them fixed, released the feral, and homed the domesticated. We have also recused puppies, dogs, and even several small wild animals like raccoons, rabbits, and possums. Our main rescue focus is cats since this is the biggest problem we see. Of course we keep a "few".
Meet Matilda
2007 - 2022
This is her story. Matilda was found abandoned in a paper bag. She was so tiny, maybe a couple days old. We quickly got her some kitten milk, a kitten bottle, fed her on the spot, and brought her home where she lived a very happy life with us.
As our first rescue from a tiny kitten, to having diabetes where she needed 2 shots of insulin daily to her passing, she is the driving force for our rescue and sanctuary work which is why we decided to name our sanctuary in her memory.

Facts
Every year in the US roughly
3 Million Cats
are purchased from breeders, pet stores, online marketplaces, private sellers and kitten mills.
Every year in the US roughly
6 Million Cats
are adopted from shelters, rescue groups, SPCA affiliates, veterinary clinics, adoption events and online platforms.
The Problem
~3 million cats are bred and sold as ~6 million cats crowd shelters awaiting adoption, another ~900 thousand to ~1.5 million cats are euthanized, in the US per year.
The Solution
By spaying and neutering cats before they reach sexual maturity, unwanted litters are prevented, reducing the problem. This in turn eases overcrowding and lowers euthanasia rates.
Our Message
Our goal is to shift the focus from continuous breeding to adopting and caring the for millions of healthy cats (and dogs) already in need of homes.
Please adopt your pets (which are always spayed or neutered). If you purchase you pet, please have them responsibly spayed or neutered.
